The Junior R&D Technician plays an essential role in the development of new products by working closely with the engineering team. This position is a great opportunity to develop your skills while contributing to the fabrication, assembly, and validation of prototypes, in addition to actively participating in the design phase.
YOUR TASKS
Design and Preparation Support
- Design collaboration: Participate in brainstorming and design sessions with engineers to provide a practical perspective on manufacturing feasibility.
- Computer-Aided Design (CAD): Participate in the creation and modification of 3D models and technical drawings of mechanical parts and assemblies using software such as OnShape.
- Component selection: Support the research and selection of appropriate mechanical components (screws, bearings, etc.) and electronic components (sensors, microcontrollers, etc.) for prototypes.
- Inventory management: Contribute to maintaining an organized inventory of parts and supplies for the R&D lab.
Prototype Assembly and Fabrication
- Part fabrication: Use rapid prototyping equipment such as 3D printers.
- Mechanical assembly: Participate in various mechanical assemblies by following plans and 3D models.
- Soldering and wiring: Perform soldering for electronic components on printed circuit boards and assemble cable harnesses.
- Mechatronic integration: Participate in the integration of mechanical systems, sensors, actuators, and electronic boards to create functional prototypes.
- Optical integration: Participate in the integration of optical components such as lasers, sensors, cameras, lenses, and others to build prototypes. Ensure that safety protocols associated with this type of equipment are followed.
Testing, Validation and Iteration
- Test bench development: Assist in assembling test setups to validate the performance and durability of prototypes.
- Basic programming: Develop simple scripts (e.g., in Python or C++) to test specific features of prototypes and for data acquisition.
- Test execution: Follow rigorous testing protocols to evaluate prototypes according to various criteria (mechanical, electrical, software).
- Analysis and documentation: Contribute to documenting tests and writing clear and concise test reports to record results, issues encountered, and proposed improvements.
- Troubleshooting: Participate in identifying, diagnosing, and resolving mechanical, electronic, and software issues in prototypes.
PROFESIONNAL QUALIFICATIONS:
- DEP in electromechanics or DEC in electrical design, or any relevant experience
- Ability to work 100% on-site
- Functional bilingualism (French and intermediate English) to collaborate with teams and clients
- Experience with basic machining equipment (lathe, mill) is an asset

REQUIRED SKILLS
- Mechanical: Interest in reading technical drawings. Practical experience in precision mechanical assembly and fabrication (3D printing, basic machining) is an asset. Knowledge of materials.
- Electronics: Soldering skills (through-hole and surface-mount components). Ability to read electronic schematics and use measuring instruments (multimeter, oscilloscope).
- Software:
- CAD: Knowledge of at least one mechanical design software
- Programming: Basic knowledge of scripting or embedded programming languages (e.g., Python, C/C++, Arduino)
- Computer skills: Comfortable with Google Suite or Microsoft Office for documentation and data analysis
- Versatility and resourcefulness: Desire to work in multiple domains (mechanical, electronic, software) and to develop versatility throughout projects.
- Attention to detail and precision: Careful attention to detail in assembly and documentation.
- Problem-solving: Curiosity and interest in understanding problems and finding solutions.
- Team spirit and communication: Ability to collaborate with engineers and communicate ideas and observations.
- Curiosity and willingness to learn: Passion for new technologies and a desire to continuously learn and improve.
