Network Administrator - temporary position

Summary:
Under the guidance of the IT Infrastructure Manager, the Junior Network Administrator will ensure the operational stability of our global network. This is a hybrid role, with an expectation to be on-site at our Quebec HQ approximately two days per week, as well as during planned maintenance activities, hardware deployments, and emergency troubleshooting when required.
This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated professional with 1.5 to 3 years of experience to manage high-stakes infrastructure and participate in large-scale global projects.
This is a temporary position for a maternity leave replacement.
Principal tasks:
- Network Administration: Independently manage and troubleshoot VPN tunnels (site-to-site and client VPNs), LAN, and WiFi environments.
- Infrastructure Maintenance: Perform routine maintenance, including firmware upgrades, patching, and security updates for network equipment.
- Documentation: Develop and maintain network diagrams, technical documentation, and SOPs to ensure team alignment.
- Hardware Ownership: Handle preparation, racking, and configuration of switches (Juniper, Fortinet, Aruba), firewalls (Fortinet), and WiFi access points.
- L2–L3 Support: Act as the primary on-site contact for escalated network issues, ensuring timely troubleshooting and resolution.
Requisite Skills:
- Experience:
- 1.5 – 3 years of hands-on experience managing network infrastructure, including firewalls, switching, VLANs, and subnetting (preferred). Candidates with slightly less experience but strong networking fundamentals, especially in VPNs and security, and the ability to quickly learn and perform are also encouraged to apply.
- Core Networking & Security:
- Hands-on experience with Fortinet firewalls (policies, access control, security rules)
- Strong understanding of VPN technologies (IPSec, site-to-site, remote access)
- Experience setting up and troubleshooting VPNs across on-premise, cloud (Azure/GCP), and customer environments
- Ability to troubleshoot hybrid network issues (NAT, VPN gateways, subnetting, static routes, FSSO/AD groups)
- Operations & Monitoring:
- Experience handling L2–L3 tickets and user escalations
- Familiarity with monitoring tools such as FortiAnalyzer (FAZ), PRTG, or similar
- Cloud & Infrastructure:
- Exposure to Azure and GCP networking
- Experience with DNS, proxy services (e.g., Cloudflare), and network access controls
- Systems & Tools:
- Working knowledge of Windows Server, Active Directory, and GPO
- Hands-on experience with Fortinet, Aruba, or Juniper devices
- Experience upgrading and maintaining network equipment
- Security Awareness:
- Ability to identify and respond to security incidents (e.g., brute force attempts)
- Proactive mindset toward improving network security
- Bilingualism: Mandatory proficiency in both French and English to support our global sites (Quebec, India, and Germany).
- Professional Certifications (Optional):
- Fortinet (NSE 3 or higher) – preferred
- CCNA or JNCIA (Junos) – good to have
- Cloud certifications (Azure AZ-900 or GCP Associate) – an advantage
- CompTIA Network+ or Security+ – beneficial
